Toluene Fire Safety

Fire Safety
Fire extinguishers for use in toluene fires shall be normally carbon dioxide (type B or C), dry chemical (type B or C), or foam (type A or B). All vehicles carrying toluene shall be equipped with at least one appropriate extinguisher of no less than 10 lb. capacity.

Due to the potential for explosion and toxic fume hazards, extinguishing toluene fires shall be left to persons knowledgeable and equipped for such fire fighting. For small, readily extinguishable fires, or where persons are in imminent danger, employees with minimum fire extinguisher training and proper equipment may attempt to extinguish small fires.
